Chicago has plenty great places to grab a cup of coffee, but I’m a sucker for perfect latte art and a little ambience. Working out of coffee shops has been an adventure and has resulted in me visiting a LOT of different places. This chapter in my hunt for the best (and most photogenic) Chicago coffee spots focuses on the trendy and foodie-filled West Loop. Expect industrial vibes and baristas that take their craft seriously when visiting. Here are my favorite West Loop coffee shops:
This stylish spot is perfect for those who like their coffee with a side of glam. Chandeliers, velvet, and interesting art pieces make this one of my favorite Chicago coffee spots. The Allis a great place to meet friends for lunch or hold a meeting, and equally perfect for crunch-time with your laptop.
Chances are, you’ve already seen the space on your Instagram feed – I might have been the one responsible, actually. The Allis also has a raved-about afternoon tea service if you need a break from the hard stuff.
Sawada Coffee is located just steps from The Allis, but the vibe couldn’t be more different. Get the military latte – it’s a combination of green tea, vanilla syrup, cocoa powder, and a shot of espresso. Sawada Coffee is the uber-cool home of Japanese latte art master Hiroshi Sawada. Yes, you can be a latte art master – and Sawada is the highest scoring latte art champion to date. If that’s not enough to convince you that this place is photograph-worthy, the industrial ambience, street art, and cafe lights might do the trick.
Sawada Coffee also offers Doughnut Vault doughnuts and a “boozy steamer” menu too, if you want to make things a little less healthy.
While La Colombe is smaller (and simpler) than the others here, the bright space and solid coffee menu make it a favorite. If bright red and wood textures are your thing, your Instagram feed will be happily refreshed with a visit here. Bonus: I did see Sophia Bush picking up her own cup of coffee on my visit, if celebrities are your thing.
The West Loop neighborhood is definitely a foodie hot spot. With these coffee shops, it’s also a caffeine-addict’s haven. Enjoy!
