Curling up with a cup of coffee and Bukowski is one of my favorite rituals. Reading about a life so very different from my own, and appreciating the way he can illustrate such a life in a way that connects me to his experience, is a mini-vacation.
Recently, I’ve discovered some amazing lesser-known poets thanks to the miracles of social media.
Janne Robinson writes raw, feminine, vibrant pieces on a variety of subjects. Her posts pop up on my Facebook and transport me away from my computer and into a place of connection. Her bio alone will make you love her:
“Janne Robinson is a poet, writer, bushwalker, idealist and animal activist currently residing on Vancouver Island. She cuts kindling with her teeth, eats Bukowski for breakfast and makes the habit of saying the word feminist as much as possible. She surfs naked, pees in the woods, and loves whiskeys that swing their hips when they walk and know what they are doing.”
One of my favorite lines:
Another new favorite writer, Fortesa Latifi, was discovered via Instagram. Beautiful words + beautiful images? Amazing. Follow her and you won’t be sorry.
Any other writers I should know? I love a good recommedation!
