Easy (Vegan) Holiday Cookies

Make these easy vegan holiday cookies in just 15 minutes!

Have you ever found yourself with a holiday party or cookie exchange invite and absolutely no time? I can’t be the only one! Since I don’t do sweets at home very often, the typical baking items are noticeably absent from my pantry. These incredibly quick and simple cookies are perfect for last-minute holiday parties, letting the kiddos help, and a crowd that includes vegans. You might even be surprised to learn that there’s no special healthy grocery store or strange ingredients required!

Ingredients and Supplies

  • Oreo cookies
  • Baking chocolate or chocolate chips of choice (check the ingredient list if you’re making them vegan! Semisweet, dark chocolate, or an allergen-friendly brand are your best best.)
  • Toppings: I used crushed peppermints, sugar pearls, and gold decorating sugar
  • Wax paper
  • Tongs or toothpicks are helpful

Easy (Promise) Vegan Holiday Cookies

Step 1: Place the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for approx. 30 seconds. Give it a good stir and add additional microwave time as necessary until the melted chocolate has a smooth consistency. Careful not to burn the chocolate! If you prefer to heat in on the stove in a  double boiler, that’s even better.

Step 2: Using tongs or a toothpick inserted into the middle of the Oreo cookie, dip the cookie into the melted chocolate until it is completely covered.  Set on a cookie sheet or plate covered with wax paper.

Step 3: The fun part! Add any decorations you like. I found crushed peppermint at TJ Maxx, but any grocery store or specialty store (like Michael’s) should have seasonal cookie decorating materials, too. If you’re making these with kids (or an enthusiastic boyfriend, in my case) it can get messy. If you are in the “more is more” camp, you can even pour out your colored sugar or other decoration into a separate bowl and dip the entire chocolate-covered Oreo in there while the chocolate is still warm. Do you.

Step 4: Pop the cookies into the fridge or freezer for faster cooling. Mine took 5-10 minutes before they were ready to package and transport.
