Three Ways to Use Activated Charcoal in Your Routine

Charcoal seems to be popping up everywhere – in masks and skincare products, especially.  I’ve only recently started incorporating activated charcoal into my beauty and wellness routine, but I’m already impressed with the results! I’ve found three amazing uses for charcoal:

Three Ways to Use Charcoal in Your Beauty Routine: Teeth whitening, a hangover cure, and skincare

Teeth Whitening

When weird Facebook ads started popping up showing people with black teeth, I initially thought using charcoal to whiten your teeth was another weird gimmick.  After researching a little more, I decided to try this charcoal powder for natural teeth whitening. It’s a little messy, but easy to add to your nightly routine. Just put a little in your palm and dip your wet toothbrush in to brush with the charcoal before flossing and using your regular toothpaste. You will look pretty insane, but my teeth are brighter without the sensitivity of other whitening products.

Hangover Remedy and Travel Godsend

When talking with other travelers about what you do when eating around the world leads to stomach issues, one product kept coming up: charcoal pills. Charcoal is actually used in emergency centers to help with drug overdoses and poisoning (!). The pills work by trapping toxins and chemicals in its millions of tiny pores. Popping a few after a night of drinking or a questionable food cart meal is a total game changer. They’re super affordable, too! This is the brand I use.

Skincare

Charcoal is all over the skincare industry lately. A couple of my favorite skincare lines have recently launched products with the ingredient, and I’m loving it. The biggest benefit for me is that it completely clears out my pores and makes them pretty much invisible. You’re left with a super clean and refreshed complexion, but without the dryness that can come with other masks and cleansers. You all know how much I love face masks, so this one has been added to the list of favorites.

Have you used activated charcoal before? What did you think?

Cheers,

Rachel
